We had a lovely warm summer, didn't we? Now, all of a sudden, the temperature has plummeted and Winter will soon be upon us.
Okay, Autumn has only just begun. But it is already feeling wintery already. I'm an Imbolc Baby but I have always been a Summer person. I just love the heat, the frolicking in the garden (when I have access to one) watching my cats laze around in the sunbeams and, of course, the large amount of butterflies. Never really been too keen on the downpours of freezing water as the days wane, waking up in the dark (especially now that I have to leave at 7am to get to work)... but the cold weather does open up for other things- cuddling up with your loved ones when it was too hot and sticky to do so before, wrapping up warm in fun jumpers- I have a particular favourite of a bunny wearing glasses. Oh, and the winter cooking! My favourite to do, although I am stubborn and will do it in the summer too, is a veggie stroganoff. It's not particularly authentic as I switch out the traditional brandy with red wine, but it sure is yummy! Maybe I will post my recipe at some point.
At the very least, Samhain is fast approaching and I will have some pumpkin recipes to share.
This post, I guess, ties in with my last one- a time of change. We're all putting our summer wardrobe away, however reluctantly, and bringing out all the jumpers, the thermals, the scarves. We're putting all the cold and flu medication on standby (do get your flu jab if you can), boiling the kettle for tea more often, basically letting go of the warm part of the year and moving on to the stages of the Earth settling down for the next few months, continuing in the cycle of death to pave way for rebirth. Quite exciting really- after all, who knows what wonders we will see when the rebirth begins!
So wrap up warm, eat rich and wholesome foods, take care of your bodies and let's plough on into winter.
Blessings,
Shanti
